Mom's Molasses Crinkles

Mom's famous recipe. I loved baking these growing up. YUM!

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon

Sift dry ingredients together, then add to other ingredients that have been blended together well. Mix well. Roll into balls. Dip the top of each ball in sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-7 minutes or until crinkly on top. Chill dough if too soft to roll into balls at first.

I am almost too embarrassed to ask, but where do they keep molasses in the stores? I couldn't find it by the jam and honey.

If I remember right it is with the karo syrup. It should be either in the baking isle or the cereal isle. Every store is different. I buy a bottle and it lasts awhile. I mainly use it for granola, I rarely make these cookies. But I am going to soon! Ever since I posted the recipe I have been craving them.

Ashlee told me not long ago I had forgotten to put the flour in this post...SO SORRY! If you made these they probably were really weird. I added it in now.
